Global demand for lithium is expected to rise sharply, driven by the growing need for critical materials to support the energy transition and storage. Brine-hosted lithium, paired with Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, offers a sustainable and efficient approach: lithium-rich brine is produced through targeted wellbores, lithium ions are selectively captured, and the remaining brine is reinjected into the deep subsurface.
LiCAN’s first well will target Devonian-aged brine aquifers of the Duperow Formation to assess lithium concentrations and production potential. The results will support an update to the company’s Resource Reporting under NI 43-101 standards, further defining the lithium potential of the Kisbey asset and informing future development phases.
Positive appraisal results will pave the way for additional exploration drilling planned for early 2026. This program builds on Ad Terra Group’s long-term investment in Saskatchewan’s lithium brine industry, reaffirming confidence in both the province’s geological potential and its position as a leading jurisdiction for responsible resource development.
Bryan Tutty, Managing Director of LiCAN Resources, commented: “We are proud to take this next step as we enter the field operations phase. The achievement of FID reflects Ad Terra’s confidence in our team, our asset, and our business plan, as we continue to advance the case for lithium production from Saskatchewan’s deep aquifers.”
